eclipse troubles

I accidentally looked directly at the solar eclipse (outside at home in NH, the sun in the low east-southeast; the sky was dark as night) and my left eye went all VHS-warpy but I hoped that there wouldn’t be permanent damage. I turned on my camera and pointed it toward the eclipse and the viewscreen got circular patches, so I averted it. Later I realized that the eclipse had actually been in totality when I looked at it — I could see the corona but not the photosphere — and hoped that that meant I wouldn’t have any eye damage. #scary
