department hybrid

From the 9th: I was in Harrod’s or some such British department store; I was thinking about getting a long wool coat until being informed (by my parents, who were there as well) that they generally cost on the order of $1500. It was a spatially complex building with higher level open to the ground floor in various degrees of aperture in different places over different parts of the ground floor store area (there were menswear and ladieswear sections and others, such as maybe for home items). The building was lit by daylight only, so it was dim in places; it was attached to or part of an older building that also contained a high-ceilinged chapel with areas overlooking it also (and no railing in places), running north-south and lit by daylight from the south; there was also a large old formal hall to the north of the store. The main entrance to the department store was along the west side and outside of it seemed to be a gas station adjacent (it recalled the RL supermarket/gas station in Utsjoki, Finland in that way).
